It's also the time of year where the public holiday changes up some business trading hours in Tamworth, and the availability of services.
The Leader has put together a list of all the things you can - and can't - do.
Supermarkets
Tamworth's two Woolworths locations will be open as normal on New Year's Eve. That means Eastpoint will open until 10pm and the Shoppingworld store will serve customers until 9pm.
On the New Year's Day public holiday, both stores will have the reduced hours of 8am to 8pm, before going back to normal on Saturday.

The city's three Coles stores - South, North and the CBD - will open as usual on January 31, until 10pm.
CBD Coles will have the special trading hours of 8am to 8pm on January 1, and 8am to 10pm on January 3.
South Coles and North Coles will have the special trading hours of 8am to 8pm on New Year's Day, and then will be back to normal.
Tamworth Aldi will be open, but the times may change for the public holiday.
Bottleshops
Dan Muprhy's at Eastpoint will be open as normal on New Year's Eve. The store will be open on January 1 from 9am to 7pm.
Tamworth's BWS store will be open until 8pm on January 31, and will trade between 10am and 6pm on New Year's Day.
Liquorland will open through to 10pm on Thursday, and will trade on the public holiday between 10am and 6pm.
Other bottle shops will be selling alcohol on New Year's Day, but it's best to check with your preferred store for the exact times so you don't miss out.
Petrol stations
Tamworth's 24-hour petrol stations are expected to be open as usual for the public holiday. Locals should check individual outlets, especially if travelling.
Where to get that caffeine fix
Some popular CBD locations like Sonny's Bakery, the Inland Cafe, Hopscotch, Hissy Fits Cafe, and Teamo will be closed on New Year's Day
Camp Grounds coffee shop, The Terrace and Gloria Jeans will be open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Tamworth's three McDonalds restaurants will be open as usual.
Addimi on Peel Street closed on Christmas Eve and will not reopen until January 11.
There are plenty of other coffee shops in town and across the city that may have different trading hours for the holidays. It's best to check in with each outlet or have a look at their Facebook page to confirm.
Pubs and clubs
Tamworth's venues are hosting a huge range of events - some have live music on and some have New Year's Eve events on Thursday night.
The Tamworth Hotel have decided to have an early one, with the restrictions on dancing and numbers making it too difficult to continue to midnight.
The Courthouse and the Tudor will be open and plan on celebrating into the early hours of 2021.
Clubs like Diggers, West Leagues and Tamworth Services Club have events on with bands.
Things to do
Tamworth's only cinema - Forum 6 - has extended its COVID-19 trading hours to seven days per week for the school holidays.
Tamworth Regional Gallery will be closed New Year's Day.
The Capitol Theatre closed on Christmas Eve and will not reopen until after January 1.
If you need to beat the heat during the holidays, both the Tamworth Olympic Pool and the pool at Scully Park will be open to the public.
Both pools are open as normal except for special trading on New Year's Day, when the public can take a dip between midday and 7pm.
The Tamworth Marsupial Park and the local botanic gardens are open as normal.

Landfill and waste
Tamworth's tip on Forest Road will be open to the community every day over the holiday period - it was only closed on Christmas Day.
Landfill centres in smaller towns across the region have reduced trading hours, so it's best to check the council website for details.
