The station flag was lowered to half-mast when the highway patrolman died on duty two Fridays back, and yesterday it was raised back to full mast as the clock ticked over to that tragic time.
A police investigation is still under way into the circumstances leading up to his shooting death after a routine vehicle stop in Lorraine St on March 2.
State homicide investigators are waiting for medical clearance to interview shooting suspect Michael Jacobs, who was still in a serious condition at John Hunter Hospital yesterday.
Oxley local area commander, Superintendent Clint Pheeney, said yesterday’s emotional ceremony was an important part of the grieving process.
“Although we all continue to grieve and mourn the loss of a great friend and colleague, as part of that process it is important that we again raise the flag to full mast,” Superintendent Pheeney said.
“This small ceremony is to reinforce our respect for everything that Dave Rixon did for the community of Tamworth over many years.
“It is also a time for all of us to again commit to our oath of office to serve and protect the community of Tamworth where we all live. This is what Dave would have wanted us to do.
“ I would like to again thank the Tamworth community and beyond for the overwhelming support they have provided us.
“I also pay tribute to every man and woman who serves within the Oxley command for the professionalism and unity they have shown over the past two weeks.”
