The PremiAir Nulon Racing driver was the last to have a solo crack at Hidden Valley Raceway, and he beat the pack by seven-hundredths of a second on Saturday to secure his maiden career pole.
He clocked a lap time of one minute 6.230 seconds, with Triple Eight's Broc Feeney second fastest followed by Mark Winterbottom in third.
"Just unbelievable. It all goes down to the hard work from the whole team," Golding said.
"It's just the beginning, so look out."
Feeney's was the fourth-to-last car out on the track and led by 0.132 seconds before Golding had his shot.
The 21-year-old registered the second-fastest time despite running wide at the first turn and driving his wheels into the grass after locking the rears into the hairpin.
"I cannot believe that. Far out," Feeney said.
"That was one wild lap. I have no idea how I stayed on the track."
Just 0.537 seconds separated the top-10 line-up, with Nick Percat starting in fourth and Anton De Pasquale in fifth.
Championship leader Will Brown will lineup in sixth.
Golding's teammate Tim Slade was pushed to ninth after falling short of Cam Waters' time by two-ten thousandths of a second.
