'This is grassroots Australia': Small village of Attunga pays its respects during 2022 Anzac Day march and service

"Have a look at what Attunga has done. This small village, this is grassroots Australia and we've got to promote that," Attunga farmer Owen Bell told the Leader.

"It's been an ordinary two years, but today's turnout for veterans was pretty reasonable.

"It's great to be starting to get back to normality and common sense is starting to prevail."

Mr Bell said it was fantastic to see kids and teachers also giving up their time to be at the service.

"Because we're trying to pass the message on to the next generation," he said.

At a sombre service, a healthy crowd of locals, veterans and Attunga Public School students and teachers paused to honour all those that have served, and pray for better times to come as the conflict in Ukraine continues.

Attunga Public School captain Lara Coombes said Anzac Day is a time for the community to come together.

Students placed handmade poppies on the Attunga War Memorial Gates in remembrance of those who have served in war.

"I know my school is proud to understand the meaning of the poppy," she said.

"Today we need to think about keeping safe."
