After the COVID-19 lockdowns in late 2021, Eather was uncertain what to expect in terms of the number of competitors.

But, with over 300 participants spread across 67 teams, the season was a rousing success from Ten4 Bouldering's perspective.
"COVID created a bit of an unknown around the first season," Eather said.
"It was a bit of an unknown quantity in terms of engagement rate, so it's been pleasing, really pleasing."
The season winners in the finals, held earlier this month, were the Firebirds (Calrossy) in the Primary 5/6 division, the Geckos in the High School competition, Chicken Crimpies in the Open B Grade and the Honeybadgers in the Open A Grade.
"Those results are pretty much on par with how the competitions unfolded," Eather said.
"On one hand, it's a structure that gives a definitive outcome. We're looking for results, everyone needs a winner in whatever sport they're doing.
"But that was predictable, they were the top teams as the season unfolded."
With the next competition set to begin tomorrow, Eather is confident the trend of growth exhibited in the Ten4 Bouldering competitions since its inception in 2017 will continue.
"It's been a perpetual growth, a compounding growth of over 150 per cent a year since we started," Eather said.
"It's not a one-hit thing, there'll be more clear patterns emerge as the season progresses. But these people aren't coming from another sport, they're coming from a market that hasn't been fulfilled."
