Ballot draw for New England election with eight candidates running

On Friday, all the candidates were revealed when the ballot draw was conducted to determine which position each of them will appear on the ballot paper.

Incumbent MP Barnaby Joyce attended the draw at the Australian Electoral Commission office, set up in a former supermarket building in Armidale.

Pavlo Samios from Inverell, who is a candidate for the Liberal Democrats, will appear at the top of the ballot paper, followed by Cindy Duncan who is again running for the United Australia Party.

Ms Duncan grew up at Wallangarra, near Tenterfield, and she moved back to the New England in 2016, settling in Glen Innes where she worked as a musician and artist manager.

At number three is Natasha Ledger, who ran in the Uralla mayoral election late last year, followed by Mr Joyce in fourth position.

Independent Matt Sharpham from Tamworth drew the fifth position on the ballot paper and at number six is a One Nation candidate Richard Thomas who lives in Queensland.

The final two on the ballot paper are former Glen Innes mayor Carol Sparks, running for The Greens, and the Labor candidate Laura Hughes.

There is four weeks until the election is held on Saturday, May 21.
