Detectives are searching for two men after officers were called to reports of a home invasion in Armidale's Allingham Street in the early hours of Thursday.
Investigators were told two men - one armed with a machete - forced their way into the house about 1:15am and threatened a 30-year-old woman for money.
Police said a 15-year-old boy was asleep at the time but woke to the commotion and handed over a cash stash to the men.
The pair then fled the scene on foot.
