'Keep calm': Local teams through to Bowls NSW semi-finals

The duo of Amanda Hawke and Karen Moxey went in to today's competition thinking they would "get put out in the first round", Hawke said.

In reality, the pair dominated Towradgi Park in round one (23 to 7), and survived a thriller against Urunga in the quarter final (18 to 17).

"The quarter final was hard," Hawke said.

"It is a big relief, it's the first time for Karen that she's played at state level, she was nervous.

"[The message was] to keep your head, keep calm. Just one shot was what we needed."

The win has earned the Delungra ladies a place in tomorrow's semi-final against Engadine, of whom Hawke knows very little.

"We've just got to see if we can put it to them," she said. "Keep with them, and if the opportunity comes to pick up a couple of shots, we will do it."

The weather proved a challenge for most of the bowlers, as it got quite hot out in the sun at the South Tamworth Bowling Club, but Hawke said the condition of the greens were "absolutely beautiful".

"I cannot fault the greens at all," she said.

"I could fault the weather, it was too damn hot. But South Tamworth have done a fantastic job on what they've achieved with all their volunteers, the greenkeepers, they've done an awesome job."

Delungra is one of two clubs from the local region to progress to the semi-finals of their respective competitions today, along with the Inverell team in the Senior Pairs who will play Yamba in tomorrow's semi-final.

Both Delungra and Inverell will begin the second day's play at 8.30am in rinks 11 and 10 respectively on green two.
