The Cody Tickle-coached Maggies trailed early but responded well to eke out what Tickle thought was a 34-30 win.
"We didn't start well, our first 20 was a bit clunky," he said of the opening quarter.
"We were down two or three tries early but grew into the game. I had a yarn with the boys about the number of errors and they responded well. That was pleasing."

He thought the Millgate brothers, Isaah and Harlee, both excelled.
"They were outstanding," he said.
"Nathaniel Slater was good too and Nathan Douglas tried hard, he was good through the middle.
"Just good to shake a few cobwebs out and get some footy into us before we play Gunnedah in the opening round."
The Magpies play Gunnedah in the first round of the 2022 Group 4 competition at Gunnedah's Kitchener Park on Saturday, April 9.
