Tamworth Business Chamber launches Think Local, Shop Local 2022 campaign with brand new Volkswagen Polo up for grabs

Tamworth Business Chamber has launched its Think Local, Shop Local campaign, encouraging shoppers to drop their dollars into a local store rather than online.

Chamber manager Bryan O'Connor said the goal is to hit $1 million in revenue across participating retailers.

"Businesses have suffered through tough times recently, and everybody knows shopping locally drives the economy and helps small business with their extra staffing," he said.

Since 2018 the campaign has generated millions of dollars for the local community, Mr O'Connor said.

"At the end of the day the money stays in the local economy and helps employ local staff, and the next three months are going to be quite important," he said.

Anyone who spends $30 or more at participating retailers until June 1 can go in the draw to win a brand new Volkswagen Polo valued at $26,000, including on-road costs.

A live draw will be conducted every Wednesday at 10am in Centrepoint Tamworth, and entries can be completed using a QR code and uploading a receipt photo as proof of purchase to shoplocal.tamworth.org.au

Tamworth council is supporting the campaign, which councillor Judy Coates said is about bringing awareness and focus back to local business.

"Lockdowns unfortunately have been one of the main drivers for people to shop online, it's been a really, really tough time for local business," she said.

"I just encourage people if they've heard about the campaign to share it with their friends."

There are a variety of other prizes on offer, including a $300 Lowes Petroleum voucher.

Tamworth businesses are encouraged to participate in the promotion by registering online.
