Trent Wilson captured the Great White with his drone. The shark was swimming from Elouera towards Wanda and Greenhills.
Sutherland Shire Council alerted the public on its Facebook page, stating that all Bate Bay beaches were closed.
Shark alarms at all beaches were switched on.
Lifeguards urged swimmers and surfers not to go into the water and to keep off-lead dogs away.
