Tamworth's fresh produce and seafood supplies prepare for 'chaos' and 'mayhem' ahead of Christmas day

With Christmas right around the corner the demand for prawns, cherries, lobsters, and all the other festive favourites has increased dramatically.

Paradise Farm Markets owner Brendon North said the family-operated fruit and vegetable store would do the equivalent of eight days of normal trade just on Christmas Eve.

After adding seafood to the shelves last year, Mr North said it was a "real winner" and would continue again this year with lobsters, prawns and oysters on offer.

Despite the chaos and stress Mr North said the festive period was the most rewarding time of year for the gourmet grocery store.

"The customers are just fantastic, they're positive, they're appreciative, it's a really positive time of year," he said.

With his wife and children helping run the show, Mr North said it was a family tradition to help other families enjoy the Christmas period.

"Food is our come together, we like to break bread together, it's so meaningful," he said.

To meet the festive demand, Coffs Harbour's Capricorn Seafood Supplies will make the trip to Tamworth on Thursday and Friday with owner Paul Hynes expecting "complete mayhem" for the two-day trade.

Mr Hynes is urging people to get down early to the mobile seafood van at Tamworth Fishing Tackle in Roderick Street to avoid disappointment.

"There's a big jump," he said.

"We go from about 30 to 50 kilograms of fresh prawns a week to about a tonne for Christmas."

As a fourth generation professional fisherman, Mr Hynes said the Christmas rush was all he knew and expected prawns, oysters, mud crabs and lobsters to be especially popular.

The van will operate from 6am to 6pm on Thursday and from 6am till sell out on Christmas Eve.
