2021-22 Connolly Cup: Jye Paterson stars as Quirindi upset Tamworth in thriller | PHOTOS

In a high-quality affair at Quirindi on Sunday, the underdogs chased down 201 with eight balls to spare in the 50-over clash.

On debut for Quirindi, off-spinning allrounder Jye Paterson took 5-31 off 10 overs and then scored 119 batting at No 3.

It was Quirindi's first win over a side, other than Peel Valley, since returning to the Connolly Cup three seasons ago.

In fact, King - whose history with Quirindi pre-dates the side's absence from the annual competition - said: "I haven't heard of a Quirindi win over Tamworth since I've been apart of cricket."

"Everybody's just over the moon," he also said, adding: "It's a really big day for the association and for the boys."

After winning the toss and batting, Tamworth's innings came to an end in the 42nd over - with skipper Simon Norvill top-scoring (44). Opener Hayden Baker made 34, while Daniel Bryant struck four sixes en route to 32.

Bryant, a left-arm quick, then took 3-36 off 10 overs as Quirindi finished on 203.

In Gunnedah on Sunday, Narrabri beat Central North Colts by 83 runs at the John Longmuir Playing Fields.

Cooper Brayshaw top-scored with 56 as Narrabri made 172 in 49.5 overs. Matt Holmes and Jedd Collins both took two wickets for Central North.

Three Narrabri bowlers - Dylan Smith, Jordyn Mowle and Jade Lees - then each took two wickets as Central North were removed for 89 in 27 overs.
