A P-PLATE driver who narrowly survived a head-on collision has been made an example of in court.

The 21-year-old walked into Tamworth Local Court using a cane on Monday and was found guilty of low-range drink-driving, after she returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.053.
Magistrate Julie Soars fined the young woman $400 and banned her from driving for three months.
"I can't give you leniency in the way of a non-conviction, it's very sad you suffered some injuries and hopefully you will think twice about this," she said.
"It's an example of why P-plate drivers need to comply with the road rules and I'm sure you will be on board with that now, given what you have been through."
The young woman was not charged with causing the crash.

"She remembers having a couple of beers beforehand and then she woke up at the hospital," he said.
The accident occurred on Dampier Street just after 1am on August 7, the young woman was trapped for an hour and had to be cut out of the vehicle by the fire brigade.
