Quast Turkey Farm prepares to put Christmas lunch on the table for families across the country

The Tintinhull family-owned and operated turkey farm has been the centrepiece of many Christmas dinners for more than six decades, with more and more people wanting to gobble up the premium birds each year.

Having just gotten over the rush of Thanksgiving orders, the farm is now preparing for a flock of festive demand as locals get in early to secure a bird.

But it's not just Tamworth families enjoying the signature paddock-raised birds, Vicki Quast said they provide Christmas lunch to families right across the country, with their biggest customer located in Perth.

"Customers start ordering in July, August, September and into October," she said.

"This year November has been particularly busy.

"It's such a frenzy."

Across the entire year the farm breeds, hatches, grows and processes around 60,000 turkeys.

This year had proven to be particularly busy for Quast family farm, with harvest falling during the festive period.

Ms Quast said it was the delicious, fresh taste of the turkeys that had locals and interstate customers lining up for more.

"We had a phone call from someone in Queensland asking 'Where can I buy your turkeys?'," she said.

To avoid getting their feathers ruffled, the Tintinhull farm store opens everyday in December during the lead up to Christmas.

The freezers are stocked with whole turkeys, rolls, and the Quast family favourite, the turkey buffe for the festive season.

But, Ms Quast said the store was about more than just putting lunch on the Christmas table.

"Many customers say it's part of their tradition to drive out and pick up a bird, so that's really nice," she said.

"It's a real privilege to be able to share that with them."

And the store has no signs of slowing down, with fourth generation and youngest member of the family, Colin "Jock" Quast, already learning the ropes of the business.

"He's very attached to the turkeys, the tractors and the machinery," Ms Quast said.

Located at 78 Tintinhull Road, the store will be open everyday from 8am to 5pm and will shut their doors at midday on Christmas Eve.

Ms Quast said the staff will enjoy a special festive lunch before she heads home to prepare the family's own Quast turkey for Christmas Day.
