Tamworth's Lifeblood Donor Centre desperate to fill appointments as demand for blood donations continues to grow

In the lead up to Christmas Tamworth's Lifeblood Donor Centre is desperately trying to fill around 800 appointments for plasma donations.

With lockdown lifted and life getting back to normal, local Lifeblood nurse Janine Crowell said demand for blood and plasma supplies is at an all time high with elective surgery and medical treatment starting back up.

"If you're healthy and well then come roll up your sleeve," she said.

With one in three people needing donated blood in their lifetime, this simple effort could help save the life of a family or friend.

Regular donor and healthcare professional Brad Hansen has clocked up 184 donations and urged everyone to get involved.

"I see donating as a very simple community service," he said.

"I'd encourage anyone who isn't currently a donor to consider becoming a Lifeblood donor and give the gift of life to others."

Mr Hansen said working in health care had allowed him to see first hand the impact that donations can have, with one plasma donation helping up to 18 patients.

With appointments available in the morning, evening and on the weekend Mr Hansen, said the donor centre was a great place to spend your time due to the friendly staff and snacks on offer.
