Tamworth housefire: Oxley police appeal for information after Tingira Street home destroyed by fire in

Firefighters rushed to the home on Tingira Street about 1am and found the house engulfed in flames.

South Tamworth station officer Royce Beck told the Leader it took crews and three fire trucks a good couple of hours to extinguish the blaze.

No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported, but the fierce flames destroyed possessions inside the home, he said.

Firefighters handed the scene over to police and a crime scene was established before forensic specialists were called in to comb the area for clues as to how the fire broke out.

Police confirmed they are searching for two men who were witnessed running from the location, and wish to speak to them as part of their investigations.

One man has been described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 175cm tall and wearing blue jeans and a black top, while the other man was reportedly seen wearing tracksuit pants.

Oxley Detective Inspector Jason Darcy told the Leader the housefire was being treated as suspicious and investigations were continuing.

He urged anyone who was in the area at the time or who has dashcam footage to come forward and make a report to Tamworth police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
