"Being such a big horse, he has got a good turn of foot and I knew he had a bit of bottom about him," said Varga upon returning to scale.
After commencing from the six barrier, Varga was happy to slot Somebeachsomegift into a four-back racing position in the outside running line when the barrier pulled away.

It Aint Royal (Tom Ison) and McKinley (Scotty-Jon Welsh) headed up the field.
With the leaders setting a first quarter of 27.6sec, Varga bided his time with the Somebeachsomewhere-Ulanart gelding before making a three-wide run around the field in the back straight on the final occasion.
"I knew when I straightened up he would find another gear, which he did," Varga said.
"It was a tough win. I wanted to go at the bell, and Blissfull Identity (Blake Hughes) came out in front of me, which was perfect.
"And I thought he would at least drag me to the 400m mark, but I went a bit earlier than that."
Somebeachsomegift made the most of the home straight to come away for a five-metre win over Sahara Jewel (Murray Sullivan), with Yellow Bow (Chris Shepherdson) a half-neck away in third place.
Somebeachsomegift, a seven-year-old, was having only his fourth race start for owners Varga, his partner Denna Burns, his mother Noelene Varga and his nephews Mitch Simmonds and Rhys Davis.
"That is the first winner for my nephews as owners, and they were at work (during the race)," Varga said.
"They were trying to knock off early to get to the track to get to watch the race but missed it. They were very excited after the win."
Both nephews were on cloud nine when they returned to work at their family-owned business, Johns Auto Service, on Friday morning.
Somebeachsomegift has 10 wins and nine placings from 40 starts.
He paid $15 for the win, after producing a nice mile rate of 1min 57.2sec for 1609m.
"I liked his form when I saw him advertised (for sale) - he won a Group 2 race at Globe Derby as a three-year-old," Varga said, adding: "He is a lovely horse to have around the stables.
"He has got a beautiful nature about him."
Varga received The Pub Group Drive of the Day.
