Tamworth Baseball Inc (TBI) had called the opening round off on Friday concerned that the fields would be too dangerous to play on given the rain during the week and the prediction of further falls over the weekend.
But inspecting the fields on Sunday morning, officials found they had dried out pretty well and so put the call out that it was going ahead.
With the late notice they didn't get as many players as had shown interest but they still had enough for two full teams, president Dave McMurray said.

"And we had some new players that turned up, which is exciting," he said.
One of the things they were hoping the more social atmosphere of the competition would do is attract some new players.
There was a real family affair with brothers, and even fathers-and-daughters playing with and against each other.
A few old faces also popped up.
McMurray himself even swapped umpiring duties for a hit at one stage during the game.
"Age is catching up but it was nice to get back out on the paddock and have a hit," he said.
He put it at probably 20-30 years since he had stepped up to the plate.
He said the players were thrilled to be back out there again with it over three months since they had picked up a bat.
Whether they get enough for the four teams they were hoping for on Sunday, he said, they "just have to wait and see"
"Obviously some people we know won't be able to attend," McMurray said.
"We're still expecting a minimum of two teams to play."
There is still time to sign-up.
McMurray said they will be taking registrations for half an hour prior to the start of play (4pm).
