Russell Morgan fronts Tamworth court after alleged break and enter at Belmore Street home in Tamworth

Russell Morgan, 35, was refused bail in Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday after he was arrested earlier that morning following a month-long investigation.

Police were called to a Belmore Street address in West Tamworth about 3am on October 11, after reports a Hyundai Sonata had been stolen from the home.

Police allege Morgan broke into the home and took a set of keys from inside before stealing the car.

Officers were patrolling the surrounding area after the alleged incident when police claim they spotted the stolen Hyundai Sonata abandoned on Quinn Street about 3:30am.

The car was seized by police and was forensically examined.

Oxley police have been investigating the alleged break and enter and officers attached to the squad's proactive crime team zeroed in on a Quinn Street home in West Tamworth just before 9:30am on Tuesday.

Officers claim they discovered Morgan hiding inside a roof cavity after they spoke with a woman at the home and then entered.

He was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he had two allegations levelled against him.

Court documents show Morgan has not yet entered any pleas to the charges of break and enter and steal possessions worth less than $60,000, and take and drive a vehicle without consent.

Magistrate Julie Soars refused Morgan's bid for bail during the court mention and ordered him to remain in custody.

She adjourned the matter to Tamworth Local Court on Monday.
