RESCUERS have been winched from a helicopter into remote bushland to help treat an elderly woman who suffered a medical episode while walking.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to an area near Baradine on Tuesday afternoon after reports an 80-year-old bushwalker needed to be extricated from remote scrub.
The isolated location meant the chopper's critical care team had to be winched into the bushland to treat the woman at the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics hiked in on foot and managed to reach the elderly woman and support the medical team as she was treated.
The patient was safely removed from the bushland and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital at Baradine where the chopper had landed and was waiting for her.
The woman was airlifted to Tamworth hospital on Tuesday evening for further treatment after the medical event she suffered.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter team said the 80-year-old was in a serious but stable condition when she was flown to hospital.
