Tamworth tradies show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month and fire up the barbie

Justin Welsh pitched the idea of running a series of barbeques to his fellow co-workers raise funds for a cause that is close to his heart.

"My nan is a breast cancer survivor," he said.

"Knowing that breast cancer can affect both males and females, it's good for everyone to be aware of it."

Mr Welsh said he was "impressed" by the response he got from his co-workers and was overjoyed when Belmore Engineering and Northwest Cranes Management decided to match dollar-for-dollar every cent that was raised at the barbeques

Over three barbeques a total of $960 was raised, which will be evenly distributed to Serendipity Tamworth, the McGrath Foundation and the Tamworth Breast Cancer Support Group.

Mr Welsh said it was important this money would go towards helping local breast cancer sufferers and survivors.

"It's great for any locals to give them support," he said.

"Having a local McGrath nurse in Tamworth we need to give them as much money as possible to keep her in town.

"She helps every member of the family and patients that are going through treatment.

Co-worker Emma Carrigan said it had been great to see the company get behind such a good cause and bring a sea of pink to the worksite.

"Everyone knows someone who's been touched by breast cancer," she said.

"We just thought it would be a great thing for our guys to get involved with and raise awareness and a bit of money."
