Tamworth stabbing: court makes 'unusual' adjournment while offer on the table in Dylan Fisher's case after alleged stabbing off Goonoo Goonoo Road

Dylan Fisher, in his 20s, has remained behind bars for more than nine months and appeared by video link in Tamworth Local Court this month.

"I understand the case conference has proceeded and there is an offer on the table for consideration, the Crown just requires time to obtain stakeholder views in relation to that offer," solicitor for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Madeleine Mulvaney said.

She asked the court to adjourn for two weeks.

Defence solicitor Rasha Shammas slammed the delays that continue to plague the case, claiming negotiations had taken place six weeks earlier.

The court heard the DPP solicitor in the matter had gone on leave and the police officer in charge was also off work.

"I don't think anything is going to happen to be honest," Ms Shammas said, before she made the "unusual" request to delay Fisher's case for six weeks.

She said he was at the top of a long wait list for an in-custody health program and extra time was needed for him to keep his place.

"He does want to rehabilitate himself," she said.

Magistrate Julie Soars noted COVID-19 was an "onerous" time to be in prison but agreed to adjourn to mid-December.

"Thank you," Fisher said.

Fisher faces a single allegation of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after allegedly knifing a 41-year-old man in the torso after a confrontation off Goonoo Goonoo Road on the morning of February 20.

Police allege the pair knew each other.

No plea has been entered.
