Moore Creek and Hills Plains development: new reservoir to provide water security, attract more development

An almost $5 million 10ML reservoir, pipeline and related infrastructure, as well as plans for a second in the future, will be key to the city's growth, Hunter Land Company director and Moore Creek Gardens developer Hilton Greugon said.

"It's really simple, with more people living there we need more water and the council are keeping ahead of the game as much as they can," he said.

"They, like everybody else in NSW have been caught off-balance by the huge uptake in demand in regional NSW.

"People in Sydney finally realised what we all knew, living in the city is not as attractive as living out in the countryside.

"The best view of Sydney is in the rearview mirror at Warringah."

New estates have popped up across Moore Creek, including Windmill Hill, The Meadows and Moore Creek Gardens with hundreds of lots on offer.

The council's population target of 100,000 people by 2041 has made investment in water infrastructure key to growth, a TRC spokeswoman said.

"While the current infrastructure meets demand, modelling for further growth in the Hills Plain area has identified that a 10ML reservoir will meet future demand and ensure water security specifically for that area," she said.

"The budget for the Bournes Lane reservoir and pipeline project, which includes the reservoir construction, pipeline and related road improvements is $4.9 million."

Mr Greugon said local councils have to keep pace with development.

"Let's face it, when it comes to residential use of water nobody will ever complain if you have too much water available in a dry spell," he said. "If you haven't got enough it can become very, very expensive.

"Whenever the government or council doesn't plan or provide adequately it costs the community, it costs mums and dads, it costs little old folk with a limited income - that's what bad planning results in."
