Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted 40-year-old man to Newcastle after tree felling accident at Yannergee, south of Gunnedah

Paramedics rushed to a property at Yannergee, south of Gunnedah on the Liverpool Plains, about 7pm on Thursday after reports of a tree felling accident.

A 40-year-old man was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries after he was trapped when the tree fell.

Emergency services reported that a branch penetrated the man's leg during the incident, which was still lodged in his lower leg as he was taken by ambulance to meet with the rescue chopper.

The Westpac helicopter was tasked to the scene with the critical care team on board and landed on the Black Stump Highway at Premer.

The 40-year-old man was stabilised and airlifted directly to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for further treatment.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesman confirmed the patient was in a stable condition at the time.
