Work has started to give one of Australia's most recognisable big things the TLC it needs.
Tamworth Regional Council visitor economy coordinator Kate Baker said staff are ready for the mammoth task of cleaning the guitar before it undergoes minor repairs and a fresh lick of bright gold paint.
"Given the extremes of temperatures we experience in this region, the guitar is faded and weathered, and in need of a makeover," Ms Baker.

"Unfortunately due to safety reasons the Big Golden Guitar will be out of action for the refurbishing period."
The tourist attraction will be closed for selfies between October 5 and 9.
