2021 Kosciuszko: Cody Morgan's Edit and Ice In Vancouver to contest $1.3 million race

After years of trying, the Canyonleigh grandfather has become a slot-holder in the world's richest country race, the $1.3 million Kosciuszko, after shelling out $25 for five tickets.

The 73-year-old, who rears and races greyhounds, has picked the Cody Morgan-trained Edit for the 1200m race at Randwick on October 16.

Morgan's Ice In Vancouver has also been selected for the race. That slot-holder is Alex Parashko of Sydney.

On Friday afternoon, Racing NSW journalist Ray Hickson said "there's a fair chance" Morgan would get a third runner, "given he has a couple of Australian Bloodstock horses".

Algie called the leading Tamworth trainer early Friday morning to arrange a 50/50 prize money split between him and the five-year-old gelding's Australian Bloodstock owners.

"It's been nerve-racking," Algie said, "because, as I keep telling everybody, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I spent $25 on tickets - when some people spend hundreds of dollars."

Algie said he was "up to the wee hours" of Friday morning "doing some form" before picking Edit.

He said "a couple" of slot-holders had phoned Morgan before he rang the trainer, but no one had been locked in.

"So we negotiated and came to an agreement - and I'm very, very happy about it," he said.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Morgan said Edit "has been trialling terrific since his move from NZ" and was "a big strong horse that just keeps coming in his races.

"He is currently $11 in the betting market for The Kosciuszko and will run enormous if picked."

Ice In Vancouver - a four-year-old gelding with three wins from six starts - was paying $21 for the win (TAB fixed odds) on Friday.

The Morgan-trained Ligulate finished 12th in last year's Kosciuszko.
