A HANDFUL of health order breaches have been detected by police across the district in the past day and leaders have praised the community for doing the right thing.

Oxley police commander Superintendent Kylie Endemi said just four penalty infringement notices (PINs) had been handed out in the 24 hours to midday on Wednesday.
She said the small number reflected that locals are working hard to keep themselves, their loved ones and their community safe from COVID-19.

"It really shows that everyone is really banding together and wanting to do the right thing ... which I think really serves our community well moving forward," she said.
Of the four PINs issued recently, she said one was to a person in Gunnedah for leaving home without a reasonable excuse while three were in Tamworth and connected to just one incident.
The trio in Tamworth were travelling in a car together without a reasonable excuse and were not wearing masks despite coming from different households, Superintendent Endemi said.
One man is behind bars on a COVID-19 breach charge as well as drug allegations from earlier this week after he was allegedly stopped on the highway outside Tamworth and did not have a reasonable excuse.
Tamworth remains free of COVID-19 while the state recorded 1480 new cases and nine deaths on Wednesday.
