A third year apprentice plasterer, Byrne works for Nathan Lambley and Jake Hartmann. "Love it, they are good blokes," he said.
Jake Hartmann was a premiership-winning centre at Pirates, until a knee injury curtailed his footy. He has nothing but praise, work wise and football wise, for Byrne.

"Hopefully he will grow into his shoulders one day, too, and put some meat on those little chicken legs.
"His football compliments his work too. He's leaps and bounds above a [normal] third-year apprentice."
Hartmann said Byrne and the player's good mate, Zac Parker, are both former Farrer students like he is.
