Tamworth COVID-19 daily update: no new COVID-19 cases in Tamworth or Armidale

Armidale also recorded no new cases of the virus.

Tragically, there were three deaths overnight caused by the Delta strain in the 24 hours until 8pm; a man in his 80's, a woman in her 80's and another man in his 70's.

There was a fourth death related to a returned traveller from overseas in his 80's.

All were unvaccinated.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said her deepest condolences went out to the loved ones of the three patients.

"There were 356 cases of community transmission in New South Wales and at this stage we understand around a third had some exposure in the community during that time," she said.

"It's always so sad when you hear about the deaths of elderly people who for whatever reason haven't been vaccinated."

Chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant thanked the Armidale and Tamworth communities for coming out for testing in high numbers.

"There has been no additional cases in Tamworth or Armidale and I think the community for their response to the testing," she said.

"We have had additional cases in relation to Newcastle and there are a number of exposure venues that have been placed on the website for Newcastle."

Tamworth will remain in precautionary lockdown until Tuesday, August 17 at 12:01am.

The city was exposed to COVID-19 when a young woman from Newcastle travelled to the city while infectious and visited five venues in town.

The COVID-19 positive woman did not know she was infectious at the time.

Anyone who has been to the following venues at the specified times is considered a close contact and must get tested and isolate immediately for 14 days:

The young woman from Newcastle returned on August 5, which is why there are no further exposure sites at this time.
