Tamworth: mob of cows caught grazing on McKinlay Place rise to social media fame before being steered home

About six or seven cows were spotted on McKinlay Place in West Tamworth this morning just in time for morning tea.

Resident Mandy Burke had just dropped her son at daycare when she pulled into the street to find new neighbours had mooved in.

"As I pulled into our street one had walked across the road in front of me so I had to stop," she said.

"It ran over to the other cows which were in our neighbours front yard.

"It was a bit of a shock to see a mob of cattle in our suburban street, a few of the neighbours were out taking pictures."

It's the first time the cattle have made it to McKinlay Place, but Ms Burke said living on the outskirts of town she's seen a few stray cows on Wallamore Road before.

"But that was quite a while ago," she said.

The cows quickly rose to social media fame, attracting hundreds of comments from locals on Facebook.

Some commenters gave the cows new names of Scotch, T-Bone, Rump and Mince, others welcomed the free lawn care and fertiliser while another remarked, "they were invited to a local BBQ. Due to COVID and refusal to wear a mask they couldn't be served... literally."

The owner was notified and the cows were steered back home.
