ITP Renewables' plans for 5MW solar farm on Wandobah Road, Gunnedah referred to Northern Regional Planning Panel

A proposal for a 5MW solar farm at 781 Wandobah Road in Gunnedah was this month referred to the panel by Gunnedah Shire Council.

The developers, ITP Renewables, said the company focuses on "town-scale projects that connect to local distributions networks, predominately providing electricity to customers in the general area".

The latest Gunnedah solar farm has an estimated cost of $6.6 million and would be located about 15 kilometres outside of the Gunnedah township.

"The project will create approximately 50 jobs during construction and it will cover approximately 12ha of land," an ITP Renewables spokesperson said.

It's not the first time IPT have eyed off the region, having previously submitted plans for a Kootingal solar farm.

It also gained approval for a 12.6 hectare solar farm on Dangarsleigh Road in Armidale.

It comes after NSW Community Renewables' plans for a $6.9 million solar farm for 262 Hunts Road, Gunnedah were knocked back by the NRPP this month.

The panel made the unanimous decision due to a number of factors, including the impact the project would have on surrounding house and land prices.

The applicant submitted a DA to Gunnedah Shire Council for the project in June, 2020, which received 13 public submissions, all in objection.

A Department of Planning, Industry and Environment spokesperson said a briefing on the Wandobah Road solar project is expected in August.
