Medical report delays case of Anna Marie Anderson, accused of high-range drink driving and causing crash on White Street, East Tamworth

Anna Marie Anderson did not appear in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday when prosecutors asked for a six-week adjournment.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Rob Baillie said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) needed time to seek an expert medical report.

Defence solicitor Clint Coles didn't oppose the delay, but raised some concerns.

"Mrs Anderson obviously wants the matter to be dealt with more swiftly, rather than less swiftly," he told the court.

She warned lawyers would need to provide "a very thorough explanation" if the case wasn't ready to proceed in August.

The 53-year-old Tamworth pharmacist is accused of being five times the legal blood alcohol limit when she allegedly caused a crash on White Street at about 2pm on April 1.

The police case is that Anderson was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Tiguan when she crashed into a Ford Focus driven by a 56-year-old woman.

The woman in the other car was taken to Tamworth hospital, where she later underwent surgery for a fractured arm, police said.

Anderson allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.250 after the crash.

She has been charged with high-range drink driving; aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH); and dangerous driving occasioning GBH.
