Coronavirus forces postponement of 2021 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Cutting Futurity at AELEC

The board of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) has made the difficult decision to postpone its Tamworth cutting futurity, due to the quickly evolving COVID-19 situation which has forced state borders to close.

The futurity is the the biggest and richest indoor sporting horse event in the Southern Hemisphere, and was set to bring an estimated $3 million into the local economy over its 15-day program, which attracts more than 500 competitors.

Due to run from July 26 to August 9, the NCHA board has now committed to delivering the event at AELEC, Tamworth, at the earliest possible dates in 2021.

"The NCHA now feels that, in accordance with the health advice, the health and safety of the cutting community, our industry and the Tamworth region is the foremost consideration," the board said in a statement.

"While we were very hopeful to continue as planned, circumstances outside of our control have dictated the need to make this difficult decision.

"We would like to thank everyone for their understanding during this period of uncertainty and plan to deliver more information around new dates in 2021 and further updates as soon as possible."

It comes after organisers of Australia's largest agricultural field day, AgQuip, made the decision to postpone the 2021 event as Sydney's COVID-19 outbreak intensifies.
