Oxley police investigating after three men allegedly broke into a motorhome at caravan park on Peel Street, Tamworth

Police claim three men stole two wallets and a mobile phone from inside the motorhome before fleeing when the owners returned.

The trio then headed to a restaurant in East Tamworth, where they allegedly made numerous purchases with the stolen bank cards, Oxley police said.

The motorhome was parked at a caravan park on Peel Street about 7:50pm last Tuesday when the three men allegedly broke in and stole the goods while the owners weren't home, according to police.

Officers claim the trio fled on foot towards the Peel River when the owners of the motorhome, a 61-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, returned to the vehicle.

Oxley police officers were alerted to the incident started making inquiries to track down the group of men.

Investigations are continuing.
