The areas of concern were around the 800m, 400m and winning post regions with the combination of rain and heavy dews meaning the track hasn't been able to dry out, Gunnedah Jockey Club secretary manager Lyn Tongue said.
She said the club was "disappointed" to see the meeting abandoned but said safety "was paramount".
"It is a safety issue and you do have to put the safety of the horse and rider first," Tongue said.
Tuesday's meeting was to be the first at the Riverside Racecourse since GJC's successful running of the 2021 Gunnedah Cup.
Trainers who had horses accepted for the Gunnedah meeting are now able to nominate for Friday's Scone meeting. Trainers have until 4pm on Tuesday to nominate for Scone.
Racing NSW will also look to divide races if sufficient acceptances apply for upcoming Hunter & North West Racing Association meetings.
The abandonment of the Gunnedah meeting comes after the Wean Picnic Races, scheduled to be held this Saturday, were postponed "due to COVID compliance and the restrictions it poses".
The GJC will now have to wait until mid-August to race again.
"Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday the 16th of August which is six weeks way and hopefully it will be a different picture then," Tongue said.
