Nicholas Graham Chapman refused bail in Tamworth and Moree courts, accused of cannabis supply after Newell Highway stop

Nicholas Graham Chapman remains behind bars after he was stopped on the Newell Highway near Moree last week.

The 38-year-old is facing an allegation of supplying drugs after 9.3kg of what police allege is cannabis was found strapped to a spare tyre.

They allege in court the drugs were divided into 20 clear bags, fixed to the tyre at the back of the ute.

Police said Chapman was behind the wheel of the Toyota Landcruiser ute when it was pulled over by New England police about 12.30pm.

Chapman was arrested on the side of the road before officers then raided a home on Burrington Road in Moree as part of the investigation. Inside they allege they uncovered a flick knife which they claim is a prohibited weapon.

It's the police case that Chapman is the subject of a weapons prohibition order.

He's been in custody since his arrest, and was denied bail in an out-of-sessions bail hearing on Saturday in Tamworth Local Court.

The case was adjourned to Moree Local Court this week, where Magistrate Michael Antrum refused bail, ordering Chapman to remain in custody until the case returns to court in July.

He's yet to enter pleas to charges of possessing a prohibited weapon that is contrary to a weapons prohibition order, as well as supplying cannabis that's less than the commercial quantity.

Chapman did not enter a plea to a separate charge of possessing a prohibited drug which has been adjourned to the same date.

He's facing unrelated charges of contravening an AVO and domestic intimidation but has denied the allegations which will be heard at a hearing in September.
