New England police investigating after goods stolen from Rural Fire Service (RFS) tanker at Kings Plains

The Kings Plains Fire Station, between Inverell and Glen Innes, was hit on Monday morning during a seven-minute window.

Police have been called in after thieves made off with a chainsaw, a blower and other goods from the RFS tanker.

Northern Tablelands RFS district officer Martin Mooney told the Leader it was the second time the same station had been hit in about 12 months.

"We're very disappointed that this sort of thing has happened," he said.

"It just takes away the tools our volunteers have to protect the community."

The RFS said the equipment was funded by the community and is "no longer available to assist with emergency events in the area".

New England police are investigating the break-and-enter and have appealed for public information.

It's understood the thieves broke into the station at 6.33am and fled with the goods about 6.40am.

Anyone who might have seen suspicious vehicles or people in the Kings Plains area on Monday, or on the Woodstock or Waterloo Roads, as well as the Eastern and Western Feeder roads is urged to contact police.
