It is the third time Mr Joyce has held the role. He previously resigned from the position in the wake of sexual harassment claims and was also removed due to eligibility criteria relating to his New Zealand citizenship - which he has since renounced.
On top of being Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister, he has also taken on the job of Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development.
The swearing-in ceremony was quite unique with Prime Minister Scott Morrison attending via Zoom from The Lodge as he continues quarantining after returning from the UK.
