A SYDNEY driver has received a large fine, a suspension of their licence and a cancellation of their car's registration after being caught on Monday going more than twice the speed limit at Segenhoe, just east of Scone.

The 57-year-old male, who was travelling with a female passenger, was clocked going 163km/h in an 80 zone heading westerly on Segenhoe Road just before 11am.
He was issued with a penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit by over 45 km/h, which incurs a $2520 fine, an immediate loss of licence for six months, and the cancellation of the vehicle's registration for six months.
After pulling over the vehicle, a 2015 Grand Cherokee Jeep, the man offered an explanation as to why he was travelling so fast.

"During conversation with the driver he informed police that it was a fast vehicle and he was just trying to stretch its legs," said Hunter Valley Police.
Police were carrying out speed enforcement duties on Segenhoe Road after "numerous complaints of vehicles traveling at excessive high speeds in the area".
They were also concerned about the increased traffic flow as a result of recent snowfall at Barrington Tops.
