Tamworth weather: SES called to three flood rescues in 24 hours in Tamworth, Bingara and Breeza

One man had to be pulled from inside his sedan as water surrounded his car on a flooded road on the outskirts of Tamworth, in the early hours of Friday.

The Tamworth State Emergency Service (SES) were urgently called to rescue the man who had become stuck while driving on Wallamore Road, near Westdale, about 1:30am.

"It was a single male occupant of a vehicle that was in some flowing floodwater," New England North West SES Superintendent Mitch Parker told the Leader.

"He remained inside the vehicle."

Superintendent Parker said Tamworth police were on the scene while the emergency rescue was carried out in the pitch dark.

"Luckily the floodwater wasn't too deep and crews were able to safely walk out and put a life jacket on the person and escort him to safety," he said.

"The person is only new to the area and was not familiar with the flooding.

"He was cold but he was okay, he didn't require medical attention."

Just hours earlier, several SES crews from across the North West rushed to assist two people in a ute who had attempted to drive through floodwater at Rocky River, near Bingara.

Superintendent Parker said the pair were sitting on the roof of their vehicle after they became stranded in a flooded causeway.

He said the area was so remote the rescue would normally have to be from the air, but that was made impossible by gloomy weather.

A local property owner managed to access the pair with a large tabletop truck and get them to safety.

A third call-out for help was also made on Thursday, after reports a person had driven into floodwater on an isolated road between Breeza and Currabubula.

Heavy and persistent rain in the Tamworth region has caused minor flooding in the Peel River and a number of local roads to be closed.

Superintendent Parker urged all locals to keep themselves and emergency services safe by never driving, walking or riding through floodwaters.
