IT was a soaking wet day on Thursday as steady rain drenched the Tamworth region and brought about a wintry start to June.

More than 15mm of the wet stuff fell between 9am and 5pm, at the Tamworth airport weather station.
Data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) shows it started to sprinkle on Thursday morning but grey skies quickly took over and brought heavy showers by the afternoon.
About a third of the day's rain - 5mm - fell in the hour between 4pm and 5pm alone.

The gloomy day marked the first rainfall for the winter season and for June.
The BoM forcast indicated rain was expected to continue overnight and keep coming down on Friday.
The sun is set to shine bright again for the weekend and early next week for Tamworth, according to the BoM.
The widespread rain brought good totals to other parts of the region, with the BoM confirming some of the highest rainfall in the state on Thursday was notched at Stannifer and Inverell.
Armidale got 18mm of rain; 15mm fell in Gunnedah; and 38mm for Inverell.
