A TEENAGER has died in hospital days after his car hit cattle while driving in the New England.

Police have confirmed the 18-year-old who was critically injured in the crash on Saturday night has died in a Newcastle hospital.
The teenager was behind the wheel of the Ford Meteor just before 9pm when he hit cattle on the Thunderbolts Way at Yarrowyck, about 30km from Armidale.
Police said several cows had strayed onto the road at the time.

His car lost control, left the road and crashed into a ditch. The impact trapped the man in the wreckage and he had to be cut from the vehicle by emergency services.
He suffered head and internal injuries and was flown to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
The teen was fighting for life in hospital, but police said he succumbed to his injuries and passed away, and investigators were notified on Tuesday.
New England police have been investigating the crash and will prepare a report for the coroner.
It was one of two crashes in the New England North West involving cattle in just two days.
On Monday, police issued a warning to landholders and motorists of their responsibilities regarding cattle on roads, or stock grazing in nearby areas.
