Jessica Louise Bruyn and Rose Leggett denied bail in Tamworth court after allegedly wielding syringe and knife during robbery

Jessica Louise Bruyn, 26, and Rose Leggett, 30, are behind bars after they were arrested in the Toyota Corolla police allege they robbed a 26-year-old man of in the early hours of Wednesday.

The pair are accused of robbery armed with an offensive weapon - a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment, if found guilty.

They're also accused of aggravated take and drive of a motor vehicle with a person on or in it, while armed.

Both appeared in Tamworth Local Court for the first time on Thursday, a day after their arrest on Duri Road in South Tamworth.

Leggett lodged an application for release but it was rejected by magistrate Julie Soars who ordered her into custody.

She faces four charges including possessing a prohibited drug and custody of a knife and did not enter pleas.

Leggett will return to court in July, after police have served a brief of evidence.

Bruyn made no bid for bail in court on Thursday morning. She faces an additional charge of refusing or failing to submit to a breath test, after her arrest.

In court, Ms Soars ordered she undergo an urgent medical review while in custody including for neck injuries.

Bruyn was not required to enter pleas and her case has been adjourned to later this month.

Police claim a Tamworth man suffered hand injuries during an armed robbery in Drummond Road about 2am on Wednesday.

Detectives were told he was robbed inside the house by one woman who was wielding a knife, and another who was armed with a syringe.

The pair allegedly took off with the man's Corolla, his wallet, mobile phone and hearing aids.

Police claim he fled the house and ran to a neighbour who alerted police.

An alert for the man's stolen car was issued for Oxley police, and about 11.55am, it was spotted on Duri Road, where the pair were arrested.
