Josh Hazlewood: Test quick honoured to have Riverside net named after him

The Test quick - back at his family's Bendemeer home having a well-earned break - said he felt "proud" to have one of the four new nets off Riverside 1 named after him.

The other nets have been named after the late Test spinner John Gleeson and former internationals Erin Osborne and Leonie Coleman.

Hazlewood grew up playing at Riverside and never envisaged being honoured in such a way.

"You sort of don't think about those things," he said, adding: "You play cricket because you love it, and playing with your mates, whether its here, at Riverside 1, or No 1 Oval.

"It's just great to see so many nets here now ... It's great to have the facilities here for the kids to play on."

It was "good to see guys from the country do well", the ex-Old Boys quick said, adding: "Hopefully some kids can see this [the net-naming honour] and play cricket and hopefully do the same thing one day."

Hazlewood - who has 212 wickets in 55 Tests - also said: "I guess knowing that someone from this part of the country can get the job done in the big city and play for Australia ... that gives them [youngsters] hope.

"So, yeah. It's fantastic."

Hazlewood's next assignment is Australia's tour of the West Indies in June-July. "It's good to have a little break," he said. "[I've] sort of been going for 10-months straight."
