North West Anzac Day 2021: all services for Tamworth, Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains

The Leader has compiled a list of all the Anzac Day services the general public is welcome to attend in Tamworth, Gunnedah and the Liverpool Plains, including the relevant road closures.

Uncertain times during COVID means details could change to comply with public health orders, but the following information is accurate as of Friday, 12pm.

The Tamworth RSL sub-branch will be hosting the dawn service for a maximum of 1000 people at 5.30am at Anzac Park. Locals are asked to respect the safety guidelines and directions from volunteer COVID marshalls. The COVID check-in points will cease at 5.25am and the lights will be dimmed in preparation for the commencement of the service at 5.30am.

There will also be a main service at the town hall, the maximum capacity for which is 376. This event starts at 10.45am, but locals can arrive from 9.45am. COVID check-in points will be via QR codes along with alternative electronic tracking methods for those who cannot use the QR code method.

It will also be live-streamed courtesy of Tamworth Regional Council. The YouTube link will be available on the council's website and the sub-branch Facebook.

The ANZAC Day march will assemble outside Attunga Public School at 3pm and will march to the memorial gates for the ANZAC Day service at 3.15pm. There will be afternoon tea at Attunga Public School until 4.45pm.

Attunga Street will be closed from 2.30pm to 5pm for this.

The West Tamworth Rotary Club will hold a memorial service at the Gipps Street War memorial, between Denison Street and Belmore Street, at about 6.30am until about 10am. These roads will be closed from 6am to 11am.

An ANZAC march and a small service will be conducted in Somerton on Anzac Day. The march will assemble at Somerton Public School in Milkmaid Street and will proceed along Scotland Street to arrive at the Somerton War Memorial Hall on the corner of Scotland Street and Joshua Street.

Road closures for these streets will be in place from 7am to 10am.

Nundle's Anzac service will begin at 10am at the cenotaph outside of the council office. Locals are welcome to attend but will need to sign in for COVID purposes.

The Kootingal service will be held at Memory Park at 9am.

At 5.30am Manilla residents can attend a dawn service at the Manilla Showground. Then, at 10.15am, everyone will get ready for the march at 10.45am.

There will be another service at 11am at the showground, too.

A dawn service will be held at 6am in Barraba at the War Memorial Clock on Queen Street. Another service will be held at 11am at the Barraba Lawn Cemetary.

Anzac Day in Gunnedah will begin with a dawn service at 5.30 am, but all participants are asked to be in place and seated by 5.15am.

The march begins at 10:15am, but people are again asked to arrive 15 minutes before hand, and will be for veterans and members of the five Gunnedah emergency services.

Schools will also be allowed to march if they gain permission from the NSW Department of Education.

At 10:45am, the commemoration service will take place with special provisions being put in place to accommodate for local veterans. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, registrations will be required.

A dawn service will be held in Werris Creek at the War Memorial in Anzac Parade, assembling at 5.50am for the 6am service. Breakfast for those attending the Dawn Service will follow at the Werris Creek Bowling and Tennis Club at 7am.

The main service and wreath laying will be held at 11am with assembly from 10.50am. Those laying wreaths are requested to cooperate with social distancing.

COVID check-in is required at all of these events.

Anzac Parade will be closed from 5.30am between Single Street and mid-block to Henry Street for the duration of the dawn service. The same area of Anzac Parade will be closed from 10.15am and re-open at 12.15pm to facilitate the wreath-laying service.

Single Street will be temporarily closed at the Anzac Parade T-intersection from 10.15am and shall re-open at 12.15pm, along with Anzac Parade. Motorists will be diverted along North and Coromandel streets for the duration of the service.

Quirindi's dawn service will be held at the Memorial Clock at 5.30am. This will be followed by breakfast at the RSL Club, supplied to veterans for free.

A march will be held from the Quirindi Post Office to the Memorial Clock as part of the day service. Those marching should form up at the post office at 10.45 am. The march will be followed by the wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Clock. The wreath laying will be followed by lunch at the RSL Club.

COVID check-in is required at all of these events.

George and Pryor streets will be closed at the nearest intersection to the Memorial Clock from 5am and re-open at approximately 6.15am with traffic diverted at Pryor and Henry streets during the closure.

During the morning march and wreath laying ceremony, George Street as well as those intersecting streets along the march route will be closed by 10.30am and re-opened by approximately 12.30pm. Traffic will be diverted to Hill Street at Whittaker, William and Pryor streets.

A wreath-laying commemoration service will be held at the Willow Tree Memorial Hall at 9am. All community members are invited to attend. There will be a COVID-Safe plan in place.

A highlight of Willow Tree's commemoration is the tradition of a local family sharing memories of war service by family members and others from the Willow Tree district.
