Tamworth footpath upgrade: council to install new all-weather footpaths in high-traffic areas

Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) will undertake $6 million worth of footpath upgrades in West Tamworth, Nundle, Kootingal and Manilla.

Work has started this week and is expected to be completed by mid-May, TRC regional services director Peter Resch said.

"Small projects like these can have a big impact on the lives of our local residents," he said.

"These footpaths will help to create safer and more accessible routes around our towns so that people can walk to work, school, the park or the shops with ease."

At Belmore Street, West Tamworth, 140 metres of new footpath will connect existing walkways between Gidley and Matthews streets.

At the moment pedestrians have to cross the road twice if they want to stay on an all-weather footpath in a heavy-traffic area.

Nundle's Recreation Reserve will have 50 metres of footpath connected to the top of the disabled access ramp to the new public toilets.

Station Street at Kootingal is set for an upgrade with 260 metres of footpath to be built between Gate and Wagonia streets, including four pram ramps to connect a major residential area with the Kootingal CBD.

And, 200 metres of footpath will be put in between the free camping area and existing footpath at Namoi Street, Manilla.
