Waterfall Way reopened more than two weeks after closing due to landslips caused by floods

The road which links Armidale to the coast had been closed for almost three weeks following extensive flood damage which cause landslips between Dorrigo and Bellingen.

Crews from Transport for NSW, Bellingen Council and local contractors had worked around the clock over the Easter long weekend to re-open the road, according to Deputy Premier and Minister responsible for Disaster Recovery John Barilaro.

"We know the importance of this road to local communities and visitors, so restoring access as quickly as we could has always been our priority," he said.

"It's been a challenging task with five major landslips and 12 minor slips along this key stretch of road, but we've had trucks hauling tonnes of material every day and crews carrying out geotechnical assessments and slip stability works."

The last sections of the Myers Bluff slip were cleared on the long weekend, and a technique called soil nailing has been used to stabilise the slopes.

Delays can still be expected, with three sections of the road operating as single-lane under traffic control while clean up and remediation works continue.

Transport for NSW and Council will continue to monitor the road, which may need to be closed at short notice should more land slips occur due to ongoing wet weather.
