Our first local newspaper was the Tamworth Examiner, commencing in 1859, which was a weekly publication.
Pictured here is the front page of the first issue on December 31, 1910 of the Tamworth Daily Observer, our first daily publication.
It was printed at 393 Peel Street (now part of Target frontage), with the initial sale price being "one penny".
The first directors were Albert Joseph, Charles Regan and Albert Creagh.
In 1920 this newspaper became a strong initiator and advocate for the New State Movement.
The Tamworth Daily Observer appeared under the new name of the Northern Daily Leader in 1921, the latter continuing through until the present day.
