Building set to start on Calrossy Anglican School's new rooms for music, independent learning in Tamworth

The new classroom is part of a further $7 million development to "provide state-of-the-art facilities" for the William Cowper campus, and will also feature a 250-seat tiered classroom.

A multi-use classroom block worth $4.3 million was the first to be erected, and this next building is a continuation of the school's upgrades.

The federal government provided a $980,000 grant for this new construction, and Calrossy will stump up the rest.

School principal David Smith said he was "really excited about the possibilities" the extra facility would bring.

"It's going to sit between our year 7-9 section but also our junior school which is prep through to year 6, so it will be joint music facilities so the kids can enjoy that," Mr Smith said.

"Music is one of the specialties of the school [and] the independent learning centre will support all kids who want some sort of enrichment, special support."

The build is set to begin at the end of the year, and will take over the current basketball courts. These courts will be replaced with two multi-sport courts.

New shelters, improved and sealed car parks, roadways and footpaths will support the overall upgrade.

"The campus and our resources are going to look significantly different in a few years, and we acknowledge the federal government and our community in supporting this project to provide top quality facilities for regional students, both day and boarding," Mr Smith said.

The already existing building includes four science laboratories, two design and technology rooms, art and dance studies, and multi-purpose classrooms.

All students in years 7-9 began studying on the William Cowper campus when this was built, but continued to learn in separate boys and girls classes.
